Saint Lucia Gown by DaisyViktoria Saint Lucia Gown by DaisyViktoria
This is my personalized Saint Lucia gown, which I made for Saint Lucia Day this year. I wanted to create something that honored the tradition while incorporating my own style and aesthetic elements.

Saint Lucia Day is a beloved tradition in Sweden. The original Lucia was a 3rd century Italian girl who wore a crown of candles and brought food to those who were persecuted. Another legend says that in Varmland, Sweden, where my family lives, Lucia brought food to the starving villagers at Lake Vanern. St. Lucia Day is December 13, which was previously Winter Solstice on the old Julian calendar. On this day, the eldest daughter dresses up in a white gown with a red sash and a crown of candles and brings Lucia buns to her household.

Oh, how cool! You should learn all about Lucia (who was actually Italian) and celebrate! I love St. Lucia Day, and I think it's a great holiday for everyone to celebrate! (:

We mostly get to know that she was a girl from italy, and like a old man wanted to marry her but she refused, something something, and she got her eyes cut out, but was given even more beautiful eyes by -god- and then the man stabbed her in her belly so she bled and.... burned her?
So the whiteness stand for virginity, the red ribbon is the blood and the candles are either that she got burned, or that she got new eyes. Idunno.

ANYWAY. I love it. The red you used for the corset, the add of the white neck-thingy and the long sleeves. I'd love to see it on. A very beautiful design.
